U.S. Imposes Sanctions on Russian Railways President V. Yakunin

United States President Barak Obama has announced an order imposing sanctions on twenty Russian individuals, as the United States struggled to forestall further Russian incursions into Ukraine. Among them are  government officials and heads of state enterprises, some of whom have longstanding ties to Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Among those being sanctioned is  Russian Railways (RZD) President Vladimir Yakunin, who is banned entry to the United States.  Anyu  assets of his  in the US will be frozen according to a U.S. Department of the Treasury press release.

RZD Press Service believes that this will have a negative impact on Russo-American railway cooperation, commenting  that Mr. Yakunin is Chairman of the International Railway Union (UIC) and “the ban of entry is not just a ban to the manager of the Russian state-owned company, but also to the leader of the large international organization”.
