Uncertainty Around Bandar Abbas, Iran

According to the information received from our partners , the situation pertaining to transshipment of cargo via Bandar Abbas, Iran is becoming unclear day by day due to the recent sanctions against Iran.

Already all  major Shipping Lines stopped service to and from Iran. This week Hyundai Merchant Marine (HMM) has become the latest carrier to withdraw from Iran, after several deep sea and some feeder shipping lines have decided to stop calling at Iran due to tighter US and UN restrictions. HMM said it will remove the Bandar Abbas call from its Far East – Middle East Gulf ‘KMS’ service as of mid-June.

It is expected that within 1-2 months it will be nearly no Shipping Lines servicing Iran, except very few Shipping Lines, which are primarily Iranian own Shipping Line, like HDSL (previously known, as IRISL). This will affect quality of the service as well as the frequency of vessels.  Ultimately the rates will aslo increase. The liners have  adopted a GRI of USD 600 / TEU on China Ports – Bandar Abbas lane. Consequently, there will be a GRI for the cargo back fm Bandar Abbas to Far East.

In addition, due to election all Shipping Lines have been given instruction not to quote from Bandar Abbas until the election results.
Please be guided accordingly! RCL Agencies will report further updates.
