The USMX and ILA contract negotiation is extended for 30 days

The officials report that the today’s negotiation session between ILA and USMX finished with an agreement to extend the Master Contract to end on Wednesday, February 6, 2013. allowing more time for negotiation.  “The container royalty payment issue has been agreed upon in principle by the parties, subject to achieving an overall collective bargaining agreement,” said George Cohen, the FMCS director. The agreement concerning the container royalty payment issue has not been disclosed because complete contract negotiations are still ongoing.

As have been reported before , if the  ILA and the USMX did not reach an agreement on this particular issue, ILA workers would have gone on strike starting Dec. 30. , this would affect 14 seaports of the USA
