According to Oregon Live, Portland port officials reported this Tuesday that ocean cargo carriers are preparing to bypass the port due to a strike planned by the marine terminal security guards on Sunday, November 25th.
The port plans to replace the 25 workers during the strike, but picket lines are expected to shut down the three terminals where they work. The affected terminals will be Portland, Vancouver and Puget Sound grain terminals.
ILWU spokesman Craig Merrilees said he hopes a settlement is reached by this Saturday.
On Tuesday, shipping was disrupted at the Port of Oakland by a one-day strike by Service Employees International Union employees. Port officials said that some trucking and pier activity was affected by the strike, but Oakland’s International Airport operations were normal.
