The Limassol Port strike ended last week after the two trade unions agreed to lift the measures and return to work , officials report.
The government has agreed to create a voluntary retirement scheme for dockworkers at Limassol. The House Plenum passed through the new legislation after the bill had been green lighted by the Council of Ministers and sent to Parliament as a matter of urgency.
The legislation safeguards Ports Authority employees being reappointed to other posts within the civil service as well as a voluntary retirement scheme.
The four-day strike had been largely a reaction to plans to privatize the island’s main ports.
