As the Journal of Commerce reports, Russia’s anti-trust investigators have raided the Moscow and St Petersburg offices of twelve of the world’s largest container lines focusing on their shipping and logistics operations.
The companies under investigation include the world’s three largest carriers — Maersk Line, Mediterranean Shipping Co and CMA CGM. Other carriers being investigated in Russia are: APL, NYK Line, “K” Line, OOCL, China Shipping, Cosco, Hyundai, Zim Integrated Shipping Services, Evergreen and the logistics company Ocean Container Services. The exception is Fesco, which is Russia’s leading container shipping line.
The reason of the investigation according to the European Commission is that “the companies concerned may have violated the antitrust rules that prohibit cartels and restrictive practices and/or abuse of a dominant market position.”
RCL Agencies will continue to monitor the situation and report the outcome of the investigation.
