The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has advised that the International Longshoremen’s Association (ILA) has agreed to postpone a threatened labor action along the US East and Gulf coasts for 90 days. During this period, the ILA and United States Maritime Alliance (USMX) will continue contract negotiations. United States Federal Mediation and Conciliation Service Director George H. Cohen said the extension gives the parties an opportunity to focus on the “outstanding core issues in a deliberate manner apart from the pressure of an immediate deadline.” The negotiations will focus mainly on the Master Contract as well as local agreements. For now, threatened strike action has been averted.
RCL will continue to monitor the development of the ILA contract negotiations and keep you informed.
