Terminals at Port of NY-NJ Closed Due to Winter Storm

Please be advised that due to expected blizzard conditions,  the terminals at the Port of New York and New Jersey closed early today and will  remain closed Tuesday January 27th.  Most terminals, including Maher Terminals, said they would close on or around 3 p.m. today.  Port Newark Container Terminal announced it would close earlier at 1 p.m and  APM Terminal’s Port Elizabeth facility closed to inbound traffic at 2 p.m.

A winter storm of historic proportions  is expected to hit the area  over the next 36 hours. Total snow accumulation is likely to exceed two feet  throughout the Port.  With the expected gale force winds, drifts could be even higher.

The terminals have agreed to waive per diems and grant truckers additional free time to remove containers before demurrage charges are assessed in accordance with the portwide “winter plan” implemented late last year.

A decision about Wednesday will be made by noon tomorrow.  RCL Agencies will continue to monitor the situation and report further updates once available. Stay safe!
