According to an official statement made by provincial technology minister Cristian Breitenstein , Buenos Aires province ports will receive US$700mn in public and private investments to improve access to terminals and expand their capacity.
The main project is the construction of container port Tec Plata, in the Plata river basin, for US$400mn. The terminal is expected to move over 400,000 containers a year in its first phase.
Other projects include dredging and maintaining Bahía Blanca port – a key grain export terminal in southern Argentina, with a US$123mn investment, and Mar del Plata – a critical fishing port – with a US$16mn investment.
Buenos Aires province is an important producer of wheat, corn, soybean and sunflower, and a critical export gateway for Argentina.
